A privately held company located in Shelton, CT, Azary built a strong reputation offering regulatory and quality assurance outsourcing services for the medical device market. Orchid acquired Azary Technologies to boost its capabilities in quality system development and regulatory services, including 510(k) submissions, FDA compliance activities and Canadian compliance. Azary has been integrated into Orchid Design.

Orchid acquires Anzon Company Anzon Company

A trusted contract manufacturer for more than 50 years, Anzon advanced Orchid’s capacity to produce difficult-to-machine components with applied precision and control. The Anzon acquisition added more than 80 CNC machines to the Orchid technology portfolio, along with the necessary and substantial secondary operations to support them.

Originally part of Micro Precision Swiss, LLC, Keller Engineering was known for its titanium implants, including intramedulary nails, bone screws and bone plates for trauma and spinal applications. The company brought large production machining capacity to Orchid, as well as state-of-the-art CNC programming.

Micro Precision Swiss offered Orchid a comprehensive, state-of-the-art manufacturing resource, specializing in small, ultra-precise parts produced on CNC controlled Swiss lathes, three- and five-axis mills, wire and sinker EDM machines, as well as seven-axis tool and cutter grinders. In addition, the company provided a full range of part finishing processes that included ultrasonic cleaning, passivation, precision bending, laser welding/marking, and product assembly. Micro Precision Swiss is now known as Orchid MPS.

2006: Orchid acquires MACDEE MACDEE

With MACDEE, Orchid added a whole new area of capability to its technology portfolio: plastics manufacturing. MACDEE had built its reputation on a foundation of injection molding, specializing in implant-grade UHMWPE. Seven presses, the ability to perform CNC machining of plastic implants and instruments, and several ISO Class 7 controlled environment rooms also accompanied the purchase.

2005: Orchid acquires Bio-Vac Bio-Vac

Acquired: 2005

Bio-Vac had spent 20 years building a worldwide reputation as a leading supplier of unique surface treatments for implant fixation, including both spherical bead and irregular particle coatings. With its acquisition of Bio-Vac, Orchid added significantly to its porous coating capabilities.

By 2005 when Orchid acquired Bio-Coat, the company had emerged as a true leader in the hydroxylapatite (HA) coating field. In addition, it was the only company in the world to offer medical implant vacuum plasma sprayed coatings, and the first to offer the only true, pure titanium, roughened surface for implants.
